The Karnataka Election Results were out on May 13 and the Congress snatched power from the BJP in a big way. Voting was held on May 10.
The Congress won 135 seats in the 224 member house in which the magic number to form the government is 113. The BJP which had won 104 seats in 2018 could manage just 66, while in the case of the Janata Dal (Secular) it was just 19. Four independents won the elections this time.
If one looks at the analysis, it is clear that the BJP did badly in pockets of North Karnataka, where it is strong. The vote share of the Congress suggests that it has done well in every segment, especially North Karnataka and the Old Mysuru Region.
The Congress registered an impressive vote share of 42.9 per cent, while in the case of the BJP it was 36 per cent. The JD(S) on the other hand recorded a voter percentage of 13.3.
It was in all a hardly fought battle and Karnataka once again proved that it does not elect the same party back to power twice in a row.
